Joseph, a young boy from Arklow, Co. Wicklow, shares a special bond with his Autism Assistance Dog, Autumn. More than just a helper, Autumn is Joseph’s best friend and constant companion, always by his side, making every day brighter with her presence. She has become a life-changing force for Joseph, offering both safety and comfort when they’re out and about. With her trusty jacket on, Autumn knows her mission: to protect Joseph, who stays securely by her side with a short lead and belt.
Joseph’s mother, Dorota, reflects on their life before Autumn: “Taking walks near traffic or even a trip to the shops was overwhelming. Joseph, who has no awareness of danger, would often bolt off, and even minor changes at the supermarket could trigger anxiety attacks.”
