Our Training Programme

At 8 weeks old, our pups begin training to become Assistance Dogs, learning vital cues and undergoing socialisation.

Our pups’ journey begins at home…

Each of our litters is lovingly raised in the home of one of our dedicated volunteers, carefully supervised by our experienced team. From birth until 8 weeks of age, these pups remain with their mother, littermates, and foster family. This early period is crucial to their development. From just 3 days old, they undergo early neurological stimulation, marking the first step in their journey to becoming exceptional Assistance Dogs.

Every day is a learning day

At just 8 weeks old, our pups begin their journey in our Puppy Training Programme. They are placed with a loving volunteer foster family who, with the guidance of our Puppy Supervisor, help them build a strong foundation through socialisation and basic training. In the early stages, this includes crate training and house training. As they grow, they are introduced to obedience skills like lead training, recall, and cues such as “wait” and “stay”,

Please do not disturb

When you see one of our adorable Autism Assistance puppies in training, it’s important not to pet or distract them.

These puppies are learning to focus on the person holding the lead and, eventually, the autistic child they will be matched with.

Your understanding helps us ensure they stay attentive and fully prepared for their important role.

Puppy Classes

While our pups may win hearts with their cuteness, they are also hard at work learning new skills as they grow up!

With their assigned volunteer foster family, pups meet with the Puppy Supervisor for puppy classes that are vital to their specialised training.

It takes a lot of dedication from our volunteer foster families and Puppy Supervisors to train the next generation of Autism Assistance Dogs!

What’s after the Puppy Training Programme?

Assistance Dog

Entering Advanced Training with an Assistance Dog Instructor, these dogs will train for 5 month to learn all the advanced cues before they are matched with an autistic child.

Educational AD

Each Educational Assistance Dog is chosen for their gentle nature, undergoing training to provide emotional support for autism classes in primary & secondary schools.

Buddy Dog

Some dogs between 6-18 months may not meet the requirements for an Assistance Dog, and would thrive better as a Buddy Dog for emotional support in a family setting.

Support a Puppy’s Journey

You can be a part of a puppy’s incredible journey by becoming a sponsor! As a sponsor, you’ll receive regular updates and exclusive insights into your chosen puppy’s progress as they work towards becoming a life-changing companion for a child with autism. Your support helps us shape the future of these amazing dogs and the children they will one day assist.
